Users on WhatsApp who are on Android devices have been experiencing difficulties sending video files as of Sunday, April 28. The issue seems to be limited to video files that are downloaded or shot locally on the Android device and not affecting all Android phones. Users have reported receiving a message saying, “Can’t send this video. Choose a different video and try again,” when trying to send video files through the app.

Investigations by Damien Wilde from 9to5Google found that the problem persists even after multiple attempts to send the video files. This issue does not seem to affect photos or other file types, making it specific to video files. Videos shot or downloaded locally to the Android device encountered problems during the upload process within WhatsApp messenger, causing frustration for users who rely on this feature to share content with others.

While some videos shot on an iPhone and received from other contacts within WhatsApp can be forwarded without issues, others downloaded from apps like Instagram directly to device storage cannot be sent to contacts within WhatsApp. The problem seems to be related to the latest Android update, v2.24.9.34, causing users to experience difficulties in sending video files through the app.

In the meantime, users can try to resolve the issue by keeping their app up-to-date, as WhatsApp is likely working on fixing the bug. Another option is to downgrade to the older version of WhatsApp, v2.24.8.85, which may help alleviate the problem until a permanent solution is implemented. However, manually downloading and installing the older version may not be a seamless process for all users.

As users continue to face challenges with sending video files on WhatsApp, it is essential for them to keep an eye on updates from the app developers. The issue, although frustrating, is being addressed by WhatsApp, and users can expect a resolution in the near future. Until then, it is recommended to follow the suggested solutions or stay updated on any new developments regarding the bug.
