Chinese brand Tecno has introduced its new flagship smartphone, the Camon 30 Premier 5G, which focuses on its camera capabilities. The phone features Tecno’s own imaging system, named PolarAce, which includes a Sony imaging chip for high-quality video recording. The company claims to offer industry-first features like 4K 30fps full-scene AI-noise reduction HDR video, allowing users to capture detailed and color-accurate videos in various lighting conditions. The phone also boasts a total of four cameras, including a 50-megapixel main camera, a periscope-style telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, a macro lens with 2.5cm focus distance, and a 50-megapixel selfie camera equipped with eye tracking. Tecno has also included AI-based features like AI Erase to remove unwanted objects from photos and Universal Tone for accurate skin tone capture.

Despite the focus on camera capabilities, Tecno chose a midrange processor, the Mediatek Dimensity 8200, to power the Camon 30 Premier 5G. The phone comes with a large 5,000 mAH battery and 70W fast-charging support, promising over 7 hours of gaming, 30 hours of calling, or 8 hours of video viewing on a single charge. The company claims that the battery will maintain over 80% of its effective capacity after four years of use. The Camon 30 Premier 5G made its debut at the Mobile World Congress in February and is set to be globally released starting in May, with pricing varying by country. However, it is unclear if the phone will be available in the US, as previous Tecno phones have not been released there.

In addition to the camera and AI-based features, the Camon 30 Premier 5G offers a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 10-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The phone also includes 512GB of storage with 24GB of RAM (12GB extended RAM) and an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance. Despite not using a top-tier processor, Tecno aims to attract customers with its camera capabilities and long-lasting battery life, making the Camon 30 Premier 5G a viable option for photography enthusiasts and heavy smartphone users. With its global release scheduled for May, the phone is expected to offer competition to other flagship smartphones in the market.
