Millions of people along the waterlogged Interstate 95 corridor on the East Coast are preparing for more rain as a storm system moves up the Eastern Seaboard, following a catastrophic bridge collapse in Baltimore. Cities like Providence, Hartford, New York City, and Philadelphia are already experiencing one of their wettest years, and heavy rain is expected to continue through Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west. A strengthening low pressure system will pull moisture from the Atlantic Ocean, bringing moderate to heavy rain from the Carolinas to New England. North Carolina, Virginia, and eastern New England could see the heaviest rainfall, with parts of Maine expecting 3-5 inches of rain.

While areas along the I-95 corridor from Washington to New York City are expected to receive lower amounts of rain, this is good news as they experienced record rainfall amounts last weekend and the ground remains extremely saturated. Even minimal rain could lead to more flooding in these areas. In addition to rain, snow is also expected as the low deepens in the Gulf of Maine on Friday, with a surge of cold air allowing precipitation to change over to snow in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. While the FOX Forecast Center is not expecting significant snowfall totals, northern portions of Maine could see 5-8 inches of snow before the storm winds down.

The forecast models predict that the front and low-pressure system will keep the heaviest rain across North Carolina, Virginia, and portions of eastern New England. While areas in the I-95 corridor are expected to receive lower amounts of rain, the ground’s saturation level makes them vulnerable to flooding even with minimal rainfall. In addition to rain, snow is expected to fall in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine as the storm system deepens in the Gulf of Maine on Friday. Although significant snowfall totals are not expected, northern parts of Maine could see up to 8 inches of snow by the end of the storm.

The East Coast is bracing for another round of rain from a storm system moving up the Eastern Seaboard, following a bridge collapse in Baltimore. Many cities along the East Coast have already experienced high levels of rainfall this year, with heavy rain expected to continue through Thursday due to an approaching cold front. A strengthening low pressure system pulling moisture from the Atlantic Ocean will result in moderate to heavy rain from the Carolinas to New England. While areas along the I-95 corridor are expected to receive lower amounts of rain, their record saturation level makes them susceptible to flooding even with minimal rainfall.

The FOX Forecast Center is not expecting significant snowfall totals from the storm, but northern parts of Maine could see up to 8 inches of snow. The forecast models show that the heaviest rain is expected to fall across North Carolina, Virginia, and parts of eastern New England. Despite lower amounts of rain predicted for the I-95 corridor, the ground’s saturation level remains high, increasing the risk of flooding with even minor rainfall. In addition to rain, snow is expected in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine as the storm deepens in the Gulf of Maine on Friday. The East Coast continues to prepare for the impact of the storm system moving up the coast, with some areas at risk of both flooding and snow accumulation.
