A.B. Quintanilla, the brother of the beloved Tejano icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, expressed anger towards an unenthusiastic audience at a San Antonio music festival. He criticized the crowd for their lack of participation during his performance with A.B. Quintanilla Y Los Kumbia Kings All Starz at the Tejano Explosion 2024 music festival. Quintanilla issued a since-deleted apology on Instagram after the incident, attributing his outburst to not taking medication as recommended by his doctor. The musician was visibly upset by the audience’s lack of excitement during his set.

In a video clip, Quintanilla expressed his frustration at the audience’s lackluster response to his performance, stating that it was disheartening after all the hard work he had put into his music. He lamented the lack of support for Tejano music and vowed that his performance at the festival would be his last. He criticized the festival-goers for not supporting Tejano music in the same way they support other entities like the Dallas Cowboys, prompting a negative response from the crowd. Despite the negative reaction, Quintanilla stood by his comments and urged the audience to boo themselves for not participating in the show.

Quintanilla’s anger seemed to dissipate as the show went on, and he referenced his late sister Selena Quintanilla Pérez, as well as other musicians he had encountered throughout his career. He acknowledged the fans who left or reacted negatively to his comments, stating that he did not wish any harm upon them. The festival took place near San Antonio’s Historic Market Square, where a tragic shooting occurred as the event came to a close. Two individuals were fatally shot, and four others were injured during the incident, which involved officers responding to the scene.

The shooting at the festival resulted in the deaths of an 18-year-old man who was shot by police after firing at officers, as well as a 20-year-old man who was also pronounced dead as a result of the incident. Four female bystanders were also injured during the shooting, although it was not immediately clear if they were struck by the suspects’ gunfire or police gunfire. The tragic events that unfolded at the festival added a somber tone to the already tense situation following A.B. Quintanilla’s outburst at the lackluster audience response during his performance. The festival ultimately ended on a tragic note with the loss of lives and injuries as a result of the shooting.
