A Long Island father and his alleged drug dealer, Robert Mauro, were indicted on multiple charges after the father’s infant son nearly died from an overdose of fentanyl. The father’s son ingested the drug from the same batch that later killed an adult woman. When first responders arrived at the family’s home in Lake Grove, they found the infant unresponsive, barely breathing, and turning blue, prompting immediate life-saving measures.

Dramatic bodycam footage shows paramedics tending to the child while his mother explains that he had trouble breathing for over 25 minutes. The mother had initially left the child with his father, who noticed that the boy had gone limp. Medics administered oxygen and Narcan to the child to help him start breathing again. The baby was diagnosed with acute fentanyl poisoning and was placed on a Narcan drip to prevent further respiratory failure upon arrival at the hospital.

Following the incident, investigators found drug paraphernalia and residue in the boy’s home, leading to the arrest of the father. Messages between him and Mauro discussing a drug deal were found on his phone. Mauro allegedly sold drugs from the same batch that nearly killed the child to an adult woman days later, assuring her that the narcotics did not contain fentanyl. However, she fatally overdosed, and an autopsy revealed multiple drugs in her system, including fentanyl.

Mauro attempted to conceal evidence by throwing drug paraphernalia out of his window when police searched his home. He was indicted on multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter and tampering with evidence. The father was indicted on charges of assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and endangering the welfare of a child. Both are scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings.

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of illegal drugs and the devastating consequences they can have on individuals and families. The fact that a defenseless infant was put in harm’s way due to his father’s alleged involvement in drug activities is particularly distressing. The arrest and indictments of both the father and Mauro shed light on the severity of their actions and the legal repercussions they face for their alleged involvement in drug-related crimes.

District Attorney Raymond Tierney expressed his heartbreak at seeing an innocent child become a victim of illegal drugs and condemned the father for subjecting his son to such dangers. The prosecution of both individuals sends a clear message about the consequences of drug-related activities and the legal responsibility individuals have to ensure the safety and well-being of others, especially children. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of combating drug abuse and trafficking to protect communities and prevent further tragedies like this from occurring in the future.
