Despite claims of massive support, Donald Trump’s ongoing criminal trial in Manhattan has been largely devoid of MAGA supporters. Trump, facing 34 counts of falsifying business records in an attempt to influence the 2016 presidential election, has called for his followers to rally outside the courthouse. However, the turnout has been minimal, with only a dozen or so demonstrators showing up, and the area around the courthouse has remained open to pedestrian traffic, contrary to Trump’s claims.

Trump’s erratic behavior and false statements have not helped his cause, as he continues to exaggerate the security presence and restrictions in the vicinity of the courthouse. His pleas for support during the trial have not been met with enthusiasm, as evidenced by the low turnout of MAGA protesters. The lack of significant protest attendance has left Trump feeling disappointed and perhaps questioning the intensity of his support among his followers.

In anticipation of the trial, the Trump campaign had hyped up potential chaos, sending out fundraising emails warning of impending turmoil. However, as the trial began, the promised outpouring of support failed to materialize. Right-wing media figures, including those at Fox News, have attempted to generate sympathy for Trump, suggesting that the trial is taking a toll on him physically and mentally.

Despite efforts to drum up support for Trump during his trial, including fundraising appeals and sympathetic media coverage, the reality on the ground has been underwhelming. The tepid response from MAGA supporters has raised questions about the true extent of Trump’s loyal following. Previous events, such as the Capitol riot on January 6, 2020, may have dampened enthusiasm for further protests, adding to the subdued atmosphere surrounding the trial.

As Trump continues to plead for support and paint himself as a victim of unfair treatment, the lackluster response from his base suggests that his perceived aura of invincibility may be fading. The disconnect between Trump’s claims of widespread support and the reality of the turnout at his trial indicates that his influence may not be as formidable as previously thought. Whether this signals a shift in the dynamics of Trump’s political appeal remains to be seen.
