Two prominent individuals in Michigan, former Adams Township clerk Stephanie Scott and pro-Trump attorney Stefanie Lambert, have been charged with tampering with election equipment and sharing voter data with an unauthorized third party. Lambert is already facing charges in a separate election tampering case in Michigan and has also made headlines for leaking emails from Dominion Voting Systems in an attempt to discredit the 2020 election results. Scott was charged with six crimes and Lambert with three, including felonies such as conspiracy and giving unauthorized access to a computer.

These incidents in Adams Township are part of a larger trend across the nation, with prosecutors alleging that Trump allies breached voting systems in states like Georgia, Colorado, and Pennsylvania in an effort to prove that the 2020 election was rigged. Many of these individuals are now facing criminal charges. CNN was unable to identify an attorney for Scott, who has previously denied any wrongdoing in her handling of sensitive voting equipment during the 2020 election. Lambert’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but she has pleaded not guilty in her separate election-related criminal case.

The charges against Scott and Lambert were filed by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, who has been aggressively investigating and prosecuting GOP attempts to undermine the 2020 election. Nessel emphasized that when elected officials and their associates use their positions to promote baseless conspiracies, show disregard for voter privacy, and break the law, it undermines the democratic process. Nessel’s ongoing case against Michigan’s fake pro-Trump electors from 2020 recently named former President Donald Trump as a co-conspirator in that investigation.

In addition to the Michigan case, Lambert is also expected to appear in Washington, DC, federal court next week in connection with Dominion’s defamation lawsuit against her client, ex-Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne. Dominion is seeking to have Lambert removed from the case because she leaked their private data. The legal ramifications of these actions by individuals attempting to challenge the results of the 2020 election are significant, and the ongoing investigations and prosecutions serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding the integrity of the democratic process.
