Former President Donald Trump commended the NYPD for their swift response in rounding up anti-Israel and pro-terror demonstrators at Columbia University and City College of New York during a campaign rally in Wisconsin. Describing the protesters as “raging lunatics and Hamas sympathizers,” Trump praised the police for quickly dispersing the protesters that had erected an encampment at CUNY and taken over an academic building at Columbia. He expressed admiration for the way the police handled the situation, calling them “New York’s finest” and highlighting the dangers they faced during the raids.

The NYPD arrested around 300 protesters during their response to the demonstrations at the two New York City campuses. This incident occurred while Trump was at his first major campaign event since his Manhattan criminal trial began in mid-April. At the rally in Wisconsin, Trump criticized the legal cases against him, calling them “bulls—” and accusing the judge and district attorney of corruption and partisanship. He framed the indictments against him as an attack on not just himself but on the constitutional rights of all Americans.

As Trump continues his campaign efforts, he is focusing on key battleground states like Michigan and Wisconsin, where he and President Biden are neck and neck in the polls. A recent Fox News poll showed that Trump and Biden are tied in Wisconsin in a head-to-head matchup, with 48% support each. However, Biden takes the lead when third-party options are included, with 43% to Trump’s 41%. In Michigan, Trump has a slight lead with 49% support compared to Biden’s 46%, which narrows to a 42%-40% advantage in a five-way race.

During a rally in Michigan, Trump emphasized the importance of the upcoming election and how the American people will have a say in the “verdict” on his legal troubles. He portrayed the legal cases against him as politically motivated attacks orchestrated by the Biden administration. Trump rallied his supporters by framing the situation as a battle between him and Biden, asserting that Biden is trying to destroy the country, and the ultimate judgement will be made by the voters at the ballot box.

Despite facing legal challenges and ongoing trials, Trump remains active in his campaign efforts, targeting swing states crucial for electoral votes. With his characteristic combative rhetoric and claims of persecution, Trump is positioning himself as the victim of a politically motivated attack designed to prevent him from serving the country. As he continues to rally his supporters, Trump is focused on winning over key battleground states like Michigan and Wisconsin, where he sees strong support and a chance to secure victory at the ballot box.
