Roxy, a three-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux cross, was found emaciated and curled up on a driveway in Boxted, Essex. Weighing only 29kg (64lb), which is significantly less than a healthy weight for her breed, she was taken in by the RSPCA after being discovered by a passerby. Nicky Thorne, an RSPCA inspector, suspects that Roxy has been neglected for a significant amount of time due to her condition.

The person who found Roxy, Emma Fowler, took her to a veterinary surgery where she was then handed over to the RSPCA. Ms. Fowler described Roxy as being shockingly thin and starving, but also sweet and grateful for the attention and help she received. Roxy was found to be about 25kg (55lb) less than what a healthy female Dogue de Bordeaux should weigh, indicating severe malnourishment.

The RSPCA has launched an investigation into Roxy’s case and is asking for anyone with information about her previous owners or how she came to be in such a neglected state to come forward. Roxy was microchipped to a property in Halstead, Essex, but previous owners claimed to have rehomed her in September 2023. The RSPCA is seeking answers about what happened to Roxy and is urging anyone who may recognize her or know something about her history to contact them.

Roxy’s condition has sparked concern and outrage among animal lovers, with many expressing shock and sadness over her emaciated state. The RSPCA is dedicated to finding out the truth about Roxy’s neglect and ensuring that she receives the care and support she needs to recover. The organization is also reminding people of the importance of responsible pet ownership and reporting any suspected cases of animal cruelty or neglect.

The RSPCA relies on the public to report cases of animal cruelty and neglect so that they can intervene and rescue animals in need, like Roxy. By raising awareness about cases like Roxy’s and encouraging people to speak up, the RSPCA hopes to prevent similar situations from happening in the future. The organization’s inspectors and volunteers work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate animals, giving them a second chance at a happy and healthy life.

Animal welfare organizations like the RSPCA play a crucial role in protecting and caring for vulnerable animals, and rely on the support of the public to carry out their work. Roxy’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and compassion towards animals, and the need to speak up when we suspect that an animal is being mistreated. Through collective efforts and advocacy, we can make a difference in the lives of animals like Roxy, ensuring that they are treated with the care and respect they deserve.
