After months of complaints about poor post-launch support for Starfield, Bethesda has finally announced a significant new patch that will go live on May 15. Players can test the patch now in the game’s beta client to experience the major changes and additions it brings. These changes include enhancements to maps, gameplay difficulty options, ship interiors, Unity respec, and a new dialogue camera.

The maps in the game have been improved to provide players with a better navigation experience. While the open world planet maps are more basic, they offer a clearer representation of the game world compared to the previous version. Gameplay difficulty options have also been revamped with a new “Extreme” difficulty setting that allows players to adjust enemy damage and player damage for a more challenging experience.

Ship interiors have been enhanced to allow for complete customization with the addition of empty modules that can be placed in the ship. Players can now respect their traits when going through the Unity, providing more flexibility in character development. A new dialogue camera has been introduced to improve immersion by eliminating the “Bethesda stare” where characters would look directly at the player during conversations.

Overall, the patch is seen as more beneficial for new players starting out in the game rather than veterans looking for a reason to return. While the difficulty options and other features are welcomed additions, the broken aspects of the patch may deter some players from exploring it further. The patch is seen as a building block for future updates and expansions such as the Shattered Space expansion coming this fall.

Players are encouraged to wait for future updates or expansions if they are not satisfied with the current state of the game. Despite the improvements brought by the patch, it may not be enough to attract veteran players back to the game. Bethesda has hinted at the addition of land vehicles in the game, but this feature is not included in the upcoming patch. Stay tuned for more updates on the patch and upcoming content for Starfield.
