Tesla’s Cybertruck deliveries were halted last week due to issues with the accelerator pedal, causing delays for some owners scheduled for deliveries. The problem was first reported by Cybertruck owners last week, with some orders pushed back to April 20. One new owner, Jose Martinez, posted a viral video on TikTok showing how his accelerator pedal got stuck, causing the car to lurch forward at full throttle. Despite the issue, Martinez was able to safely put the car in park before causing a collision. Tesla has not publicly acknowledged the delays, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is in contact with the company to gather more information about the accelerator pedal problem.

These delays come at a time of financial difficulties for Tesla, as the company reported a 23% decrease in profit in its January earnings report. CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday that Tesla would be cutting more than 10% of its global workforce, with about 10,000 employees being laid off due to job duplication during the company’s rapid growth phase. Tesla shares fell to $154 on Tuesday, the lowest price since April 2023. Despite these challenges, Musk remains one of the wealthiest people in the world, with an estimated net worth of $184.6 billion. Most of his wealth comes from his shares in companies like SpaceX and the Boring Company, as well as his ownership of about 12% of Tesla.

The NHTSA is aware of the issue with the accelerator pedals in the Cybertruck and is working with Tesla to gather more information, but no formal investigation has been opened at this time. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Forbes. The delays in Cybertruck deliveries are the latest setback for Tesla, whose stock price had already slumped to a 12-month low following Musk’s announcement of layoffs. Despite these challenges, Tesla remains a major player in the electric vehicle market, with a strong base of loyal customers and fans who eagerly await the resolution of the accelerator pedal issue.

As Tesla works to address the accelerator pedal problem and navigate its financial challenges, Musk remains focused on innovation and growth. In a memo to Tesla staff, he emphasized the importance of efficiency and competitiveness in the company’s operations. Musk’s entrepreneurial spirit and vision for the future of electric vehicles continue to drive Tesla forward, despite the current obstacles. With the support of its dedicated workforce and loyal customer base, Tesla will likely overcome these challenges and continue to lead the way in the global electric vehicle market. It remains to be seen how the company will address the accelerator pedal issue and ensure the safety and satisfaction of its Cybertruck owners.
