The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed undrafted free agent Jacoby Windmon from Michigan State University, adding to their roster for the upcoming season. Windmon transferred from UNLV at the beginning of his fifth season and made a significant impact during his time at Michigan State. In 2023, he played in three games and registered six tackles, four assists, and three stops. He also had three total pressures, including one QB hurry, one QB hit, and one sack as a pass rusher.

According to NFLDraftBuzz.com, Windmon has several strengths that make him a valuable addition to the Steelers roster. He has shown initial quickness and flexibility in his movements, as well as active hands and suddenness to counter inside. Windmon is also tough and can bull through tackles or fight through blocks to reach the passer. He has a good feel for working off blockers and knowing when to counter as the play progresses. Additionally, Windmon is an instinctual player who reads and reacts quickly and is able to fly around the field.

Despite his strengths, Windmon also has some weaknesses that the Steelers will need to address. He may need to be covered up to be effective, as he is not the type of player who can bend the edge in the pass rush. He can also be slow to react and locate the ball against the run, which could be a potential area for improvement. While he has the skills to play as a 4-3 Mike linebacker, he may be better suited as a Will linebacker to maximize his range and speed on the field.

The Steelers have been active in signing undrafted free agents for the upcoming season, with Windmon being one of the latest additions to the team. In addition to Windmon, the team has also signed cornerback Beanie Bishop from West Virginia, outside linebacker Julius Welschof from Charlotte, running back Daijun Edwards from Georgia, and quarterback John Rhys Plumlee from Central Florida. These signings are part of the team’s efforts to strengthen their roster and add depth at key positions as they prepare for the upcoming season.

As Windmon joins the Pittsburgh Steelers, he will have the opportunity to make an impact and compete for a spot on the roster. With his strengths as a pass rusher and his instincts as a chase-and-tackle linebacker, Windmon brings valuable skills to the team. By addressing some of his weaknesses and continuing to develop his game, he has the potential to contribute to the Steelers’ defense and make an impact on the field. Fans will be eager to see how Windmon progresses as he enters training camp and works towards earning a spot on the roster for the upcoming season.
