E-scooters from Neuron are back in Saskatoon for a second year as part of a pilot program. Neuron is offering residents a city-specific online training course to refresh riders on road rules for e-scooters, along with free credits. The pilot project began in May 2023, with 100,000 kilometres logged within the first month. The general manager of Neuron Mobility Canada, Ankush Karwal, expressed excitement about being back on the streets in Saskatoon and highlighted how residents and visitors are using the e-scooters to explore the city and visit local businesses and attractions.

Looking at the demographic of e-scooter riders in Saskatoon, data shows that 45 percent are between 16 and 24 years old, 27 percent are in the age range of 25 to 34, roughly 18 percent are 35 to 44 years old, and the remaining 10 percent are 45 or older. Neuron also provided a list of safety tips for riders to follow while using the e-scooters in Saskatoon. Some of these tips include the requirement that riders must be 16 years old or above, with consent needed from a parent or legal guardian for those under 18. Helmets are mandatory for all riders, and e-scooters can be ridden on bike lanes, multi-use trails, pathways, and streets with a speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour or lower. Riding on sidewalks is not permitted, and only one rider is allowed per e-scooter.

Neuron’s safety tips also advise riders to stay as far right as is safe, keep a safe distance from pedestrians and mobility devices such as wheelchairs, and give way to them. Riding under the influence of alcohol or other substances is prohibited, along with the use of earphones while riding. Additionally, the guidelines recommend following local parking regulations and stipulate no tandem riding or riding with children on the e-scooters. These safety precautions aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for riders as they navigate the streets of Saskatoon.

As Neuron continues its presence in Saskatoon, the company remains focused on promoting safety and responsible riding habits among e-scooter users. By offering training courses, free credits, and city-specific guidelines, Neuron aims to educate and empower riders to use e-scooters in a way that benefits both themselves and the community. The success of the pilot project in its first month, with 100,000 kilometres logged, reflects the popularity and utility of e-scooters in Saskatoon. Residents and visitors alike are embracing this mode of transportation to explore the city, support local businesses, and enjoy all that Saskatoon has to offer.

With a clear demographic breakdown of e-scooter riders in Saskatoon and comprehensive safety tips provided by Neuron, riders can feel confident and informed as they navigate the city’s streets. From age requirements to helmet mandates and riding restrictions, these guidelines aim to create a safer environment for riders, pedestrians, and other road users. As Neuron’s e-scooters become a familiar sight in Saskatoon for another year, residents can look forward to convenient and eco-friendly transportation options that contribute to a more sustainable and interconnected city.
