Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana of Greece have announced their decision to divorce after 13 years of marriage. The couple, who have been together for fourteen years, expressed the difficulty of their decision but also the deep appreciation, respect, and love they have for each other. Despite the divorce, they plan to continue living in Greece and hope to maintain a deep and sincere friendship based on values of respect and understanding. The pair, who do not have children, expressed gratitude for the support and discretion of those around them during this challenging time.

The news of the divorce came as a surprise to many royal watchers, as just two months prior, Tatiana, 43, and Nikolaos, 54, had appeared together at a thanksgiving service for King Constantine II at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Despite the unexpected announcement, the couple had been seen presenting a united front during the service. Prince William was also expected to attend as Nikolaos’s godfather, but had to cancel due to his wife Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. This event showcased the couple’s commitment to their royal duties despite their personal struggles.

Tatiana, who had been welcomed into the Greek royal family with open arms, described her daily life as very simple despite her royal title. She mentioned that she lived a normal life of work, going to the supermarket, cooking, walking her dog, and interacting with the local community. She expressed feeling the Greek concept of philoxenia, a love of strangers, strongly during her time in Greece. Despite marrying into royalty, Tatiana emphasized that titles did not hold much significance to her. She stated that she did not feel like a princess and that marrying a prince was a privilege and honor rather than a focus on titles.

After their wedding in August 2010 on the island of Spetses in Greece, Tatiana shared her perspective on her royal status. She mentioned that while Nikolaos was her prince, she did not see herself as a princess. Instead, she viewed her role within the royal family as a privilege and an honor. Tatiana expressed her appreciation for being welcomed into the family and for the love and support she received from the Greek people. Despite the divorce, it is evident that Tatiana and Nikolaos have a deep respect and affection for each other, and they value the friendship they hope to maintain moving forward during this new chapter in their lives.
