Poppy Harlow, a longtime anchor at CNN, announced her departure from the network after nearly two decades. In an email to colleagues, Harlow expressed gratitude for the support and growth she experienced at CNN, both personally and professionally. CNN’s chief executive, Mark Thompson, praised Harlow’s reporting and interviewing skills, as well as her ability to connect with audiences on a human level. Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent and content, also commended Harlow for her contributions during her time at CNN.

During her tenure at CNN, Harlow covered major global events such as the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and the 2015 Paris terror attacks. Known for her background in business journalism, she also hosted the “Boss Files” podcast and conducted interviews with notable executives like Warren Buffet, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill and Melinda Gates. In 2022, Harlow was tapped by then-CNN chief Chris Licht to co-host the network’s flagship morning show, alongside Kaitlan Collins and Don Lemon. However, the show faced challenges in attracting viewers and experienced internal conflicts, leading to Lemon’s departure and Collins’ move to a solo prime time slot.

After Thompson took over as CNN’s chief executive, he announced a reconfiguration of the network’s morning lineup, leading to changes that left Harlow without an anchor slot. Despite engaging in discussions with CNN, Harlow ultimately made the decision to leave the network. In her farewell email, she expressed her intention to spend more time with her family in the immediate future and continue to support the evolution of journalism while maintaining a focus on compassion and humanity. Harlow expressed optimism for the future and indicated her continued support for CNN.

Harlow’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in her career, during which she made a lasting impact on the field of journalism through her reporting, interviewing style, and dedication to quality storytelling. While her decision to leave CNN comes after a period of change and transition within the network, Harlow’s legacy as a talented journalist and compassionate storyteller will continue to resonate with audiences and industry peers. As she looks towards the future, Harlow remains committed to upholding the values instilled in her during her time at CNN and continuing to make a positive impact in the field of journalism.
