Two representatives, including the Governor of Queensland, will participate in the official Olympic Family Program. The final expenditure for these representatives will not be disclosed until Queensland government annual reports for the current financial year are released. Brisbane will be represented at Paris just like the state government, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast councils. Brisbane, as the main host city, will also be home to many venues during the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The spokeswoman for Schrinner emphasized the importance of learning from other host cities to contribute to planning the best Games ever.

Labor has expressed concerns about the amount of international travel expenses being incurred, including those related to the Paris Games. While they acknowledge the need for some travel, they believe the current amount is excessive. This sentiment is compounded by recent budget cuts that have reduced funding for basic council services like footpaths, drainage projects, and curving and channelling. The prioritization of international travel expenses over essential services has been a point of contention among some council members, including Cassidy. He believes that council resources should be allocated more wisely.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli initially announced that the cost of her travel to Paris would come out of her own pocket. However, on Wednesday, the Sunshine Coast Council revealed that they would pay $7500 for Natoli’s accommodation in Paris. Natoli expressed disappointment in the change of plans and the unforeseen expenses. Similarly, Gold Coast City Council will be sending four representatives to Paris, including Mayor Tom Tate. The decision to send multiple representatives underscores the commitment of these councils to be involved in the planning and execution of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

There is a growing concern among some council members and residents regarding the allocation of funds for international travel expenses related to the Olympic Games. As budget cuts are affecting essential council services, the prioritization of costly international travel is seen as misplaced. Critics argue that the resources should be redirected towards improving local infrastructure and services instead. The discrepancy in how the expenses for these international trips are covered, with some representatives being funded by their councils while others pay out of pocket, has also sparked debates within the communities.

While Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast councils are committed to sending representatives to the Paris Games, there are differing opinions on the amount of travel and expenses involved. Some believe that the lessons learned and experiences gained from participating in such events are invaluable and crucial for contributing to the success of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032. Others argue that the current focus on international travel is disproportionate to the needs of the community and that resources should be reallocated accordingly. As the debate continues, there will likely be ongoing discussions and decisions made regarding the funding and participation in future Olympic Family Programs.
