Fifteen-year-old Jaylynn Parker has officially become the new Ohio state record holder for catching a 101.11-pound blue catfish. Parker caught the fish on April 7 on Twelve Mile Creek, a tributary of the Ohio River, using a jug line. The massive fish was a surprise to Parker and her family, who were fishing with family friends. Despite the challenging conditions caused by debris in the river, Parker managed to reel in the hefty catch with the help of her family.

After catching the blue catfish, Parker and her family had to go on an adventure to find a scale to weigh the fish for official certification. With the help of the Ohio Division of Wildlife, they were able to weigh the fish at Bethel Feed and Supply, where it tipped the scales at more than 100 pounds. The new state record was certified by a vote of the Outdoor Writers of Ohio members. Parker was eager to release the fish back into the water once it was officially weighed, and took joy in seeing the fish swim away healthy.

Parker’s catch has garnered attention from the community, with many reaching out to congratulate her and express admiration for her accomplishment. She received a letter from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, recognizing her as the new state record holder.
