The family of slain NYPD cop Jonathan Diller received support from Mario’s Meat Market and Gourmet Deli in Middle Village, Queens. The deli sold 2,217 chicken-cutlet sandwiches, with $5 from each sale of the special sandwich going to Diller’s family. The sandwich called “The NYPD” consisted of chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and arugula drizzled with balsamic glaze. In total, over $15,000 was raised through the sandwich sales and additional donations.

Following the tragic incident in which Diller was shot while on patrol in March, Mario’s deli, along with other donors and supporters, rallied to help his widow and 1-year-old son Ryan. The generosity of both the local community and people across the country was overwhelming. In addition to the funds raised through sandwich sales, a Go Fund Me page has raised over $1 million for the Diller family. With donations from various sources, more than $2 million has been released to support the family during this difficult time.

Queens Councilman Robert Holden commended Mario’s Meat Market and Gourmet Deli, as well as the community members who supported the initiative to help the Diller family. The solidarity shown in times of need demonstrates the community’s support for law enforcement and its ability to come together to assist those in distress. Holden expressed pride in representing a community that consistently stands up to support those in need.

The tragic circumstances of Diller’s death shed light on the dangers that law enforcement officers face in the line of duty. His shooter, Guy Rivera, a career criminal with multiple prior arrests and convictions, now faces serious charges including murder and attempted murder. Rivera could potentially spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted of the charges against him. Additionally, another individual involved in the incident, Lindy Jones, faces charges related to criminal possession of a weapon and may also face significant prison time if found guilty.

The community response to the tragedy reflects the deep gratitude and support for law enforcement officers like Jonathan Diller. Mario’s Meat Market and Gourmet Deli’s initiative to raise funds for the Diller family, along with the overwhelming support from various donors and supporters, highlights the importance of standing together in times of adversity. The heartfelt appreciation expressed by Joe DiGangi, the owner of Mario’s deli, reflects the impact of the generosity displayed by the community and individuals across the country who contributed to the cause.

In conclusion, the efforts made by Mario’s Meat Market and Gourmet Deli, along with the community support and donations, have provided much-needed assistance to the family of fallen officer Jonathan Diller. The tragedy of his death has brought to light the risks faced by law enforcement officers and the importance of community support in times of crisis. The fundraising initiative exemplifies the power of unity and compassion in times of adversity, with the support received serving as a testament to the resilience and generosity of people coming together to aid those in need.
