Egypt continues to build the highest flagpole in the world in the new administrative capital (east of Cairo), and to achieve this achievement, Egypt received the day before yesterday, a giant crane, which is the largest in the world, and is capable of carrying 1200 tons, for use in building the mast whose height is scheduled to be 191 metres. According to project officials, the length of the mast will be higher than the Great Pyramid (138) meters. Engineer Muhammad Ali, site manager, said, “The mast is located in a very special location, in the middle of (People’s Square), and includes stands for 1,300 people.”
The flagpole consists of 10 links next to a movable link responsible for moving the flag, and while the total weight of the flagpole is 1040 tons of iron, the Egyptian flag will be 60 meters long by 40 meters.
Commenting on the reception of the giant crane, the head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Yahya Zaki, said in a press statement that “the port’s development operations allow it to receive huge loads of goods, as well as receive the largest ships and equipment used in national projects.”
The tallest flagpole in the world so far is registered in the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was inaugurated in 2014 in Jeddah. Its height is 170 meters, and it exceeds the height of its counterpart in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, which is 165 meters high. The new Egyptian capital also includes the tallest tower in Africa, the iconic tower located in the capital’s central business district, with an estimated height of 400 metres. In addition, 20 towers are being constructed for various uses in the same area, with investments estimated at $3 billion.
