Thieves captured on video smashing window and raiding car on busy Melbourne street


Two thieves were captured on camera smashing a car window and stealing property from inside the vehicle in broad daylight in Melbourne last week.

Police said a man and a woman approached a black 2023 MG sedan that was parked on Barkly St, Footscray at about 4pm on March 23.

In a video captured by a bystander from inside a nearby building, the man is seen smashing the front passenger window with what police say was a claw hammer.

He climbs through the window into the car while the woman reaches in and appears to try to open the door.

The man is seen rummaging through the car, removing items and handing them to the woman.

When the pair finished both walked east along Barkly St.

The male offender was wearing a blue Tommy Hilfiger hoodie, blue Tommy Hilfiger tracksuit pants, Nike basketball shoes and a black peaked cap. He is described as approximately 30 years old, with red hair and a beard.

The female is also described as approximately 30 years old and has brown hair with red highlights.

She was wearing a black hoodie and black activewear.

Images have been released of the pair by police in the hopes someone may recognise them.
