Police have released more information on the death of Mica Miller, the wife of a South Carolina pastor, whose body was found at Lumber River State Park late last month. The Robeson County medical examiner determined that Miller died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two incident reports from March detailed Miller’s statements about being followed and harassed by a man, and her car tires being deflated with a tire deflation device. She reported hearing a pop and seeing metal protruding from her tire, but police were unable to prove that the man she named in the report was responsible. In March, Miller posted a video offering advice to those in abusive relationships, and later filed for separation from her husband, John-Paul Miller.

Police investigations revealed that on the day of her death, a 911 call was placed by someone who wanted their phone to be located because they intended to kill themselves. Deputies were dispatched to Lumber River State Park, where they found Miller’s black Honda Accord with a gun case and ammunition inside, receipts for a handgun, and other personal belongings. A second 911 call reported a body seen in the park’s water, which was identified as Mica Miller. Authorities confirmed that John-Paul Miller was not in North Carolina at the time of her death, attending an athletic event with someone else. The medical examiner, police, and Miller’s parents and immediate family members met to discuss the investigation.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office released a detailed report based on surveillance footage, interviews, physical evidence, and analysis from the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins emphasized the importance of conducting a methodical investigation to address rumors and conspiracy theories that were spreading. He expressed sadness over the tragic event and highlighted the need to make decisions based on facts and evidence. While the investigation revealed factors related to the incident over an extended period, it ultimately concluded that Mica Miller made a tragic decision to end her life. Authorities released a timeline of events on the day of her death, confirming that John-Paul Miller was not present in North Carolina when she died.

Family members have called for further investigation into Miller’s death, while friends have expressed disbelief that she would take her own life. John-Paul Miller’s lawyer indicated that he would attend a meeting with authorities to discuss the case. The events leading up to Miller’s death, including her separation from her husband and the incidents she reported to police, have raised questions among those who knew her. The investigation aimed to address speculations and provide a factual account of the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The Sheriff’s Office assured the public that a thorough examination of the evidence was conducted to determine the cause of Miller’s death and to dispel misinformation that was circulating.
