This past month has been a challenging one for Samsung Galaxy users, particularly in terms of security updates. Apple has highlighted how ahead it is in terms of security, making the situation even more frustrating for Samsung users. Samsung has been aiming to show that it prioritizes security and privacy with its blog post titled “Stay in Control of Your Security,” emphasizing the importance of users having full control over their devices.

On a positive note, Samsung has expanded the list of Galaxy devices receiving critical security updates, with newer flagship models such as the S21s and S20s now included. However, there has been some inconsistency in the rollout of updates, with some devices receiving updates later than others. This randomness in the distribution of updates has left many users feeling unsettled, especially when updates are delayed.

The irregularity in security updates distribution has been a cause for concern for Samsung Galaxy users. The unpredictability of which device will receive updates on a given day has been a source of frustration. In contrast, Apple has been praised for its consistent and timely updates for all users, highlighting the contrast in approach between the two tech giants in terms of security practices.

The delay in releasing updates is particularly troubling this month, as the May update contains critical fixes for vulnerabilities affecting Qualcomm modems and the phone’s change log. These vulnerabilities pose a significant risk if exploited by malicious actors, underscoring the importance of timely security updates to protect user data and privacy.

Samsung’s security blog post this week touched on the company’s commitment to enhancing device security and privacy through features such as the FindMy network and a control center for the company’s “hybrid AI” technology. The company reassured users that sensitive information is processed on-device for many of its AI features, with strict data protection policies in place for cloud-based processing.

Looking ahead, Apple is expected to unveil its own AI plans next month with the launch of iOS 18, setting the stage for a competition between Apple and Samsung in the premium smartphone segment. Security and privacy are expected to be key factors in determining the winner in this battle, emphasizing the need for both companies to prioritize user data protection and transparency. Samsung must work on providing more clarity and assurance to its users, especially in light of the increasing malware threats targeting Android devices.
