Italian model Eugenio Casnighi, who served as a greeter for the Met Gala in 2022 and 2023, was fired from attending the 2024 event after he claims he upstaged Kylie Jenner at last year’s gala. Casnighi took to social media to share a video where he explained that he had been disinvited from the Met Gala for overshadowing Jenner’s appearance at the previous year’s event. Despite being confirmed to attend a month prior, Casnighi was informed just two days before the event that he would not be making an appearance.

Footage of Casnighi at the 2023 Met Gala went viral after he was filmed looking dapper in his suit while standing in the background of an interview between Emma Chamberlain and Blackpink’s Jennie Kim. The camera panned away from the interview to focus on Casnighi, with text appearing on the screen that read: “Trying to focus on Emma interviewing Jennie but…” Casnighi revealed that he was hired as a model escort to help celebs on the red carpet, including getting Kylie Jenner whatever she needed. Despite feeling that he had fulfilled his duties, he was removed from the event for allegedly making it about himself.

Casnighi expressed his disappointment in the organizers’ decision to fire him, claiming that they blamed him for taking attention away from the celebrities. He shared on TikTok that he was expecting to work with Jenner all night at last year’s Met Gala and was surprised when he was let go. Fans of Casnighi voiced their support on social media, questioning why the organizers would fire him when his viral moment brought attention to the event. Casnighi also mentioned that he had evidence to support his claims and revealed some behind-the-scenes gossip about a celebrity who had gotten in trouble for smoking in the tent before the event.

In his video, Casnighi also discussed an incident at a past Met Gala where a celebrity, who he did not name, had been caught smoking in the tent before the event was supposed to begin. Despite being asked to stop by the organizers, the celebrity disregarded the rules and continued smoking, stating, “No, what are you going to do about that?” Casnighi vowed to continue sharing details about his termination and shedding light on his experience with the Met Gala. The event was set to take place on May 6th, marking the beginning of the annual fashion extravaganza.
