Lexi Reed has recently celebrated losing 100 pounds and continuing to be in remission from calciphylaxis. She had previously lost over 300 pounds eight years ago, but gained about 90 pounds back after being diagnosed with the rare disease. Calciphylaxis caused Reed to feel similar to how she did before starting her weight loss journey and made her question her strength. The disease causes calcium deposits to build up in the blood vessels of fat and tissue, resulting in immobility and pain for Reed.

Despite the challenges she faced, Reed is now focusing on living, healing, and refusing to take life for granted. Following intensive treatments, surgeries, and other medical interventions, Reed celebrated her remission in March 2023, with all of her wounds closed. She has since returned to the gym, starting with cardio and gradually incorporating weight training to regain her strength. Reed often uses the rowing machine, treadmill, and stair climber in her workouts, and has overcome muscle weakness and balance issues that resulted from her time away from her regular routine.

Reed credits her recent weight loss to improved nutrition and being able to prepare and eat high-protein meals again, such as salmon, turkey burgers, and vegetables. Despite the setbacks she experienced during her hospitalization, she is now able to stand long enough to cook for herself and focus on healthier eating habits. Reed has been open about her weight loss journey since 2016 when she started sharing updates alongside her husband, Danny, on social media. Her account has amassed over 1 million followers, and she continues to inspire others through her perseverance and determination.

While Reed is optimistic about her progress, she acknowledges that she is not yet back to where she was before her diagnosis. She plans to continue working on her fitness goals, including lifting weights and eventually hiking with her husband. Although she still has concerns about the possibility of the disease returning due to the calcium deposits in her body, Reed remains determined to live her life to the fullest and not let fear hold her back. Complications of calciphylaxis can be severe, including pain, non-healing wounds, infection, and organ failure, but Reed is committed to fighting against the odds and embracing the healing process.

Reed’s journey with calciphylaxis has been a testament to her resilience and strength in the face of adversity. She has shared her struggles, triumphs, and setbacks with her followers, offering hope and inspiration to those facing similar challenges. Despite the physical and emotional toll of the disease, Reed remains unwavering in her determination to overcome obstacles and seize every moment. Her story serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to start over and keep going, no matter what challenges life may bring. Reed’s courage and perseverance are a beacon of light for anyone facing difficult times, showing that with resilience and support, it is possible to overcome even the toughest of challenges.
