Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert faced disrespectful hecklers during her visit to George Washington University. The protesters chanted “Beetlejuice” and anti-Israel rhetoric as she walked through campus with fellow lawmakers. Boebert criticized the disruptive behavior of the protesters, expressing concern for the safety of Jewish students. Despite the disruptions, she continued with her visit and eventually took a bullhorn to address the protestors directly.

The protesters targeted Boebert due to a previous incident where she was kicked out of a “Beetlejuice” showing for disruptive behavior. Security footage captured the incident where she was seen getting handsy with her date and causing a disturbance. Boebert attributed the incident to her “overly animated personality” and confirmed the end of her relationship with her then-beau. The hecklers at George Washington University used this incident to taunt Boebert during her visit.

Accompanied by other Republican lawmakers, Boebert navigated through the campus where anti-Israel protesters had set up camp. The university had requested the assistance of the DC Metropolitan Police to relocate the unauthorized protest encampment, but no action had been taken. Boebert criticized Mayor Muriel Bowser for failing to ensure the safety of the campus and surrounding area while expressing support for Israel. The protesters attempted to disrupt Boebert’s press conference with chants, but she stood strong in her defense of Israel.

During the visit, Boebert condemned the protestors’ support for Palestine, citing signs that read “Gays for Gaza” and other slogans. She argued that many of those standing in support of Palestine would themselves be at risk from the terrorists they support. Boebert stood firm in her support of Israel as the greatest ally of the United States in the Middle East. The congressional delegation faced additional challenges during the visit, including racist attacks against Rep. Donalds and ongoing disruptions from the anti-Israel demonstrators.

Rep. Comer announced that the House Oversight Committee would convene a hearing on the anti-Israel protests at George Washington University, scheduled for May 8. The committee expressed concern over reports that the DC Metropolitan Police had rejected the university’s request for assistance in removing the radical and antisemitic protestors. The tensions at the university highlight the ongoing debate over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges faced by lawmakers who seek to address these issues in a politically charged environment. Boebert and her colleagues continue to advocate for a more peaceful and inclusive campus environment, despite the disruptions and resistance they face.
