King Charles III and his wife Queen Camilla have taken over several of Queen Elizabeth II’s former patronages, according to a press release from Buckingham Palace. Charles will become the patron of the Royal British Legion, a nonprofit that supports military veterans, while Camilla will take on roles at organizations such as the Royal Literary Fund and the Royal Academy of Dance. The former queen had been involved with 492 organizations during her reign, with 376 being reallocated to Charles, Camilla, and other royals.

The couple will also continue supporting organizations they were involved with before Charles became king, including the Commonwealth Forestry Association and the Royal Commonwealth Society. Charles became the British monarch in September 2022 following Elizabeth’s death at the age of 96. Eight months after his ascension, he was officially crowned king at a coronation ceremony. The first anniversary of the ceremony is set to be marked on Monday, May 6th.

In February, Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. The palace stated that his medical team is encouraged by his progress and remains positive about his recovery. Despite his diagnosis, Charles made his first public appearance since receiving the news by visiting a cancer treatment facility with Camilla. He is scheduled to attend more public engagements in May before hosting the Emperor and Empress of Japan for an official state visit the following month.

Charles will be taking on Queen Elizabeth’s role as the patron of the Dogs Trust charity, which aims to rehome dogs in need. The organization’s chief executive expressed delight at welcoming the new royal patron, praising Charles for his love and passion for dogs. Camilla, on the other hand, will become the president of the Sandringham branch of the Women’s Institute, among other roles she has inherited from the late queen. Both Charles and Camilla have been actively involved in charitable organizations and initiatives throughout their royal lives.

As Charles and Camilla continue to take on more responsibilities and patronages from the late Queen Elizabeth II, they are also dealing with Charles’ health situation. The palace has assured the public that his medical team is closely monitoring his progress and making adjustments to his public engagements as needed to support his recovery. Despite these challenges, the royal couple remains dedicated to their duties and commitments, while also honoring the legacy of Queen Elizabeth and her extensive involvement in charitable work throughout her reign.
