Judd Trump took a 6-2 lead over Tom Ford in their second-round clash at the World Championship, capitalizing on errors from his opponent to secure a good position in the race to 13. Despite not playing at his best, Trump managed to put himself in front after the first session with a top break of 69. The match started off scrappy, but Ford produced some brilliance with a fluked brown to take the first frame. However, Trump settled into the match with solid contributions in the second and third frames to edge ahead.

In the fourth frame, both players had some alarming misses, but Ford managed to draw level with Trump at the first interval. However, Trump took advantage of Ford’s mistakes in the fifth and sixth frames to open up a two-frame lead. Despite not looking completely comfortable, Trump found some excellent pots in the seventh frame to extend his lead further. Ford’s evening was summed up by sarcastically giving a thumbs-up to the crowd after snookering himself on the remaining reds, allowing Trump to take the frame and open up a four-frame lead.

John Higgins moved into the second round with a 10-6 win over Jamie Jones, after initially trailing 3-1 mid-way through the first session. The four-time Crucible champion ran through four frames on the spin to secure a lead heading into the second session. Higgins struggled with nerves as he attempted to close out the win, but ultimately took a scrappy 16th frame to set up a clash with Mark Allen. Despite not posting any big breaks, Higgins managed to maintain his composure and secure the victory over Jones.
