After being coached by Jim Harbaugh for all three years of his college career at the University of Michigan, Junior Colson will now be playing for his former coach in the NFL. Harbaugh left Michigan to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, and he was the one who called Colson to let him know he had been selected as the 69th overall pick in the draft. Several other Michigan players were also drafted, including quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who was selected 10th overall by the Minnesota Vikings. Colson set a career-high with 44 solo tackles last season, and his performance on an elite defense was a key factor in Michigan’s undefeated season.

During the call with Harbaugh, the coach and player exchanged the familiar Michigan rallying cry of “Who’s got it better than us?” and “Nobody.” Harbaugh also shouted “Hail to the Victors” after Colson was selected, showing his enthusiasm for reuniting with his former player in the NFL. Harbaugh had previously coached the San Francisco 49ers for four years before returning to Michigan in 2015. Colson’s impressive performance on defense last season will be a welcomed addition to the Chargers, who ranked 28th in the NFL in defense last year.

In addition to Colson, three other Michigan players were drafted in the third round of the NFL draft – Blake Corum, Roman Wilson, and Zak Zinter. The Michigan Wolverines had a successful season, culminating in a national championship victory, and the strong performance of several players led to their success. Colson’s 95 tackles last season led the team, showcasing his impact on the field. The Chargers will be looking for Colson to make a similar impact on their defense, as they strive to improve their ranking in the league and strengthen their team overall.

Harbaugh’s return to the NFL to coach the Chargers brings the opportunity for him to work with former players like Colson once again. The connection between coach and player is evident in their interactions, with Harbaugh’s excitement over being reunited with Colson and his former Michigan players. The familiarity and shared experiences between Harbaugh and Colson, as well as their success at Michigan, bode well for their collaboration in the NFL. It will be interesting to see how Colson’s career progresses under the guidance of his former coach as he transitions from college to professional football.

The draft day excitement for Colson and the other Michigan players marks a significant milestone in their careers, as they move on to the next level of competition in the NFL. Being selected in the draft is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication to the sport, and it opens up new opportunities for these players to showcase their skills and make an impact in the league. Colson’s selection by the Chargers is just the beginning of what promises to be a promising career for the talented linebacker, who will have the chance to continue his success in the NFL under the guidance of his former coach, Jim Harbaugh.
