Jim Gaffigan, known for his love of food, is starring in a new Netflix comedy movie called Unfrosted. Directed by Jerry Seinfeld, the film is a fictionalized take on the creation of Pop-Tarts and the competition between Kellogg’s and Post in the 1960s. Gaffigan plays the character Edsel Kellogg III, who is a fictional creation for the movie. Other characters in the film, such as Kellogg’s rival executive Marjorie Post played by Amy Schumer, are based on real people but with fictionalized motivations.

While Gaffigan and his fellow stand-up comedians are known for their improvisational skills, he mostly stuck to the script written by Seinfeld and the rest of the team. However, he did have some input, including a line about Vietnam that made it into the final cut. Despite sticking to the script, Gaffigan recalls that Seinfeld was open to ideas and collaboration on set. The movie also features numerous cameo appearances by other stand-up comedy greats, adding to the comedic talent on screen.

Working on Unfrosted was like a big reunion for many of the comedians involved, with Gaffigan noting that it felt like a daily meeting of friends and colleagues. The film includes scenes with larger groups of comedians, such as an awards ceremony for breakfast cereals that mirrors the Oscars. Gaffigan reflects on the experience of working with Melissa McCarthy for the first time, praising her as a special talent who added extra laughs to their scenes together. The film also stars Fred Armisen, Hugh Grant, Jon Hamm, James Marsden, and others in cameo roles.

Unfrosted is now available on Netflix, offering viewers a comedic look at the fictionalized origin of Pop-Tarts and the competitive world of breakfast cereals in the 1960s. Despite its humorous take on historical events, the film showcases the talents of its ensemble cast, led by Gaffigan and directed by Seinfeld. With a mix of scripted humor and improvisational moments, Unfrosted offers a fresh and entertaining take on the world of breakfast pastries and the people behind them. Audiences can enjoy the film for its comedy and its star-studded cast, making it a must-watch for fans of stand-up comedy and comedic ensemble casts.
