The New York Times launched a new game called Connections in June 2023, which has quickly gained popularity as the outlet’s second-most played game after Wordle. This game challenges players to find common threads between a series of words and group them into categories. Similar to Wordle, Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices. Each puzzle consists of 16 words divided into four categories, and players must correctly place all four words in each set to remove them from the board. The game allows players to make up to four mistakes before it ends, and they can shuffle and rearrange the board to make guessing the connections easier.

Connections editor Wyna Liu advised players to pivot to a different category if they notice that there are five or more words belonging to one category, as this may help eliminate wrong guesses. The game includes a color-coding system to indicate levels of difficulty, with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. A word may belong to more than one category, but there is only one correct answer. Hints for each day’s puzzle are provided by Newsweek to help players figure out the categories. The answers for each day’s puzzle are revealed at the end of the article, allowing players to check their solutions.

For the Monday edition of Connections, the hints included categories related to working out, westerns, leaders who promoted harmony, and words preceding the name of a winged insect. Players were tasked with grouping words such as bridge, cowboy, and honey into their respective categories. By correctly categorizing all words, players can solve the puzzle and move on to the next challenge. The game is released at midnight in the player’s local time zone, providing a regular opportunity for players to test their skills and logic in figuring out the connections between words.

Newsweek is dedicated to challenging conventional wisdom and finding connections in the pursuit of common ground. Through popular games like Connections, players are encouraged to think critically, make connections between seemingly unrelated words, and sharpen their problem-solving skills. The game provides an engaging and entertaining way for players to exercise their brains and test their ability to identify patterns and associations. As players progress through the levels of difficulty and successfully solve each puzzle, they are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and accomplishment. Newsweek continues to support players with hints and tips to aid them in their quest to crack the daily puzzles.
