Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, has identified two states, Virginia and Minnesota, that he believes the former president can flip in his favor in the upcoming election against Democratic incumbent Joe Biden. LaCivita cited internal polling that showed Trump leading Biden by 3 points in Minnesota and trailing him by only 4 points in Virginia. While Biden’s campaign dismissed these claims, LaCivita maintains that these Democratic strongholds are ripe for a Republican takeover in 2024.

In the 2020 election, Biden won both Minnesota and Virginia by significant margins, maintaining the Democratic streak in these states. Minnesota has consistently voted blue since 1976, while Virginia, once a Republican stronghold, has shifted towards the Democrats in recent years, with Biden winning the last three elections in the state. Despite this history, internal polling by Trump’s campaign suggests that these states may be more competitive in the upcoming election than previously thought, prompting speculation about a potential change in the electoral landscape in 2024.

Public polling also shows a close race between Trump and Biden in Minnesota, with recent polls indicating a slight lead for Biden in the state. A poll conducted in April showed Biden ahead by 2 points, though with a margin of error that could impact the accuracy of the results. In Virginia, while Biden remains ahead according to public polling, Trump’s internal surveys suggest a closer race in the state, raising questions about the potential for a Republican resurgence in this historically Democratic stronghold.

The focus on Minnesota and Virginia as potential swing states in the 2024 election reflects the shifting dynamics of American politics and the ongoing battle for key electoral votes. Trump’s campaign advisors are optimistic about their chances in these states, despite past election results, and are working to mobilize support and resources to compete against Biden in what is expected to be a closely contested race. As the campaign unfolds, attention will remain on these key battleground states and the impact they may have on the outcome of the election in November.
