Google Photos is testing a new feature that will allow users to hide specific faces from the platform’s automatically-generated “Memories” feature without untagging them from photos saved in the main photo library. This new “show less” function is a much-needed way of avoiding emotionally sensitive reminders of selected individuals while still being able to search for them in the photo collection. For example, if a loved one has recently passed away, users can keep them tagged in photos but avoid receiving unexpected notifications containing videos and photos of them.

The feature was discovered by tipster AssembleDebug and reported by Android Authority, although it is not yet available to users. The code for the feature already exists in the latest version of the Google Photos Android app. When editing an individual from the “People and Pets” view in Google Photos, a new “Hide face from memories” menu item will appear. Tapping this will provide two options: the “Show less” feature mentioned earlier, as well as a “Block face” option that will prevent that person from being tagged in photos with others.

In addition to the “show less” feature, Google Photos is also testing a new one-tap video enhancement feature, also discovered by the tipster AssembleDebug. This feature will likely be included in a future update to the Google Photos app. The combination of these new features will provide users with more control over their photo collections, allowing them to manage sensitive content and enhance their videos with a single tap.

While the new features have not been rolled out to users yet, the introduction of the “show less” function and one-tap video enhancement feature will enhance the overall user experience of Google Photos. These additions address common concerns users may have about seeing sensitive content in their “Memories” feature while also providing them with tools to quickly enhance their videos. As Google continues to test and refine these features, users can look forward to a more personalized and seamless experience in managing their photo collections.
