The event focused on “Securing the Next Generation of Technology Workers” at Whatcom Community College. There are currently 7,500 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the state, and efforts are underway to align employer needs with cybersecurity workforce education to bridge this gap.

The keynote speaker highlighted the significant shortage of cybersecurity professionals, with only 5.5 million professionals compared to the vast coverage of technology in our lives. The panel at the event provided career advice to students and industry professionals, emphasizing the importance of networking, attending cybersecurity conferences, and creating more internship opportunities. They also encouraged the industry to collaborate with education programs to provide students with real-world experience and opportunities for growth within the field.
