Gary Lim, a former entrepreneurship professor, developed an online course called Knock Out Worry to help people struggling with anxiety to take control of their worries and enjoy life. The course consists of six video lessons and is designed to teach individuals how to recognize the sources of their worry, manage anxiety, and build a routine that helps them to control their worries. Lim developed this methodology after doing extensive research and successfully relieving himself of worry and anxiety without medication.

A recent CNN/Kaiser Family Foundation poll revealed that 90% of Americans believe the nation is facing a mental health crisis, with over 50 million Americans experiencing mental illness such as anxiety and depression. The poll also found that one-third of adults often or always feel anxious. Many people can’t afford treatment or find the services they need in their area, further exacerbating the mental health crisis. Torie Hairston, Sr. Director of Integrated Health at Upstate Family Health Center, Inc., noted that worry is normal and increasingly common in society, especially after the pandemic, making tools like Knock Out Worry more relevant and necessary.

Digital tools for managing mental health are becoming more prevalent, with different platforms and apps catering to various learning styles. Hairston emphasized the importance of empowering individuals to navigate their mental health experiences in a way that suits their needs and preferences. Lim’s online course, designed to help individuals understand and address their worries, offers a self-paced and customizable approach to managing anxiety. This flexibility and control can potentially empower individuals to take charge of their mental well-being.

Lim’s background in entrepreneurship and business consulting has prepared him to tackle the challenge of helping others manage their anxiety. While he lacks a traditional mental health background, Lim’s personal success in overcoming worry and anxiety gives him unique insight into the struggles individuals face. Through his course, he hopes to share his methodology with others who may be experiencing similar challenges. By addressing a gap in the marketplace and putting his teachings into action, Lim is utilizing his entrepreneurial skills to make a positive impact on mental health.

Lim’s career includes a variety of roles in academia, business consulting, and entrepreneurship. He taught courses in entrepreneurship and communication skills at Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, as well as continuing education courses in healthcare business management with his wife. Lim’s diverse background and experience in growing a successful business from the ground up have equipped him with the skills and knowledge to develop an effective course on managing worry and anxiety.

As more people recognize the importance of mental health and seek ways to cope with anxiety, resources like Knock Out Worry are becoming increasingly valuable. Lim’s course offers a practical and accessible solution for individuals looking to take control of their worries and improve their quality of life. By sharing his personal journey and insights, Lim hopes to empower others to overcome their anxiety and find peace of mind. With the mental health crisis on the rise, initiatives like Knock Out Worry are vital in providing support and guidance to those in need.
