In her new book, “No Going Back,” South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem seeks to raise her profile as a MAGA loyalist and potential running mate for Donald J. Trump. However, the book has garnered attention for controversial details, such as an account of Ms. Noem shooting her dog. She also criticizes other Republicans, including figures like Nikki Haley and Ronna McDaniel. Noem devotes a section to RINOs and blames some Republicans on the far right for recent election losses.

Despite criticism, Kristi Noem defends her decision to kill her dog and suggests that one of President Biden’s dogs should also be put down. She includes a false anecdote in the book about meeting Kim Jong-un, which she later took responsibility for. Noem offers lavish praise for Trump in the memoir and hints at her own future aspirations, possibly as his running mate. While she may be positioning herself for a potential vice-presidential role, Noem emphasizes that a selection should be based on qualifications rather than gender.

The book also discusses what Noem would do on “Day 1” if elected as president, including putting federal property up for sale and convening a bipartisan working group on immigration. She mentions inviting the Obamas and Bidens for a screening of a Liam Neeson film, “The Grey,” which she describes as one of her favorites. Despite the controversy surrounding the book, Kristi Noem appears determined to assert her conservative credentials and continue her political career at a national level.
