The FBI has served subpoenas in the Chicago suburb of Dolton where Mayor Tiffany Henyard has faced accusations of corruption. Henyard, also the Thornton Township Supervisor, has been labeled the “worst mayor in America” by critics for various alleged misdeeds, including weaponizing police raids and spending taxpayer money on luxuries in Las Vegas. Recently, she has also come under fire for an alleged sexual assault by one of her allies during a Vegas trip. Four FBI agents visited Dolton and served two federal subpoenas, one for employment records for 25 Dolton employees, and the other specifically for Keith Freeman, Henyard’s top aide who was charged with bankruptcy fraud. The FBI did not provide more details on the subpoenas.

In February, it was reported that the FBI was investigating Mayor Henyard after six individuals had spoken to the agency about her alleged misconduct. Dolton trustee Tammie Brown expressed excitement that the feds are looking into the situation, as residents have been begging for an investigation for months. The Village of Dolton recently voted to hire former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot as a “Special Investigator” to look into Henyard’s conduct after she vetoed the board’s request to launch a federal investigation into her alleged misuse of funds. Lightfoot is being paid $400 an hour to gather information on Henyard’s alleged spending and finance mismanagement, as well as any state and federal violations.

Mayor Henyard has been condemned by both local Dolton residents and Thornton township residents, with accusations of racial politics being appealed to amid her scandals. She has claimed that false narratives are being spread about her, and criticized residents for attacking a Black woman in power. Henyard has been living a lavish lifestyle with a combined salary of nearly $300,000, more than the state’s governor, and frequent use of beauty vendors, despite the low median income of the town’s residents. She has been described as engaging in wild antics, similar to a “real life Parks and Rec situation,” but her alleged misdeeds may finally be catching up to her.

The FBI has not provided additional information about the subpoenas served in Dolton, and Mayor Henyard herself was not served. The House of Cards appears to be collapsing, according to Burt Odelson, the Legislative Counsel for the Village of Dolton Board of Trustees. Henyard has been accused of a range of misdeeds, including weaponizing police raids and spending taxpayer money on luxuries in Las Vegas. She has faced public outcry and criticism from residents in both Dolton and Thornton Township for her alleged misconduct, with calls for investigations into her actions.
