The 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby is being celebrated with a week of events leading up to the big race. Opening Night kicked off the festivities, with Dawn at the Downs giving fans a chance to watch the Kentucky Oaks and Derby contenders warm up. 502’s Day and Champions Day followed, showcasing local businesses and honoring Kentucky sports heroes. Thurby on Thursday focuses on bourbon, Bluegrass music, and horse racing, with the Taste of the Derby event providing food and wine pairings. The evening continues with welcome parties and galas at various venues, celebrating the Derby tradition.

Friday marks the Kentucky Oaks, a prestigious race for three-year-old fillies. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink in honor of the race’s official flower, the stargazer lily, and to support women’s health causes. The day is filled with races, brunch options, and galas, including the Trifecta Gala featuring performances by Bruno Mars and other guests. The Fillies & Stallions Ball and other exclusive parties are also on the schedule for Friday night, drawing celebrities and high-profile guests to the Derby festivities.

Saturday is the highly anticipated Kentucky Derby, known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” Gates open early for a full day of events, including the Derby Day Brunch at Hermitage Farm and the Derby Breakfast at Farmington. Fans can enjoy shopping, drinks, and entertainment in the Woodford Reserve Paddock Plaza, with various activations and photo opportunities throughout the day. Infield experiences offer additional attractions for guests, with brands hosting interactive activities and entertainment.

New additions to the Derby experience in 2024 include the Woodford Reserve Paddock Club and Sports Illustrated’s Club SI, offering exclusive views of the races and editorial features. The Turf Club features a boutique by Longines, showcasing a limited edition Kentucky Derby timepiece. PopCorners, Tractor Beverage Company, and Q Mixers make their debut at the event, providing unique experiences and refreshments for attendees. The Derby continues to serve as a global hub for entertainment, sports, and fashion, attracting audiences from around the world to experience the excitement of the iconic horse race.
