The John Paul II Life Center in Austin, Texas, was established in 2010 by two married couples with a mission to provide women-centric “holistic care” for those experiencing crisis pregnancies. The center offers free services including pregnancy tests, sonograms, and client advocates to support women through their options. Clients come from all walks of life, and the center does not discriminate based on race, religion, circumstances, or status. Women who choose not to have an abortion can receive prenatal care at the Vitae Clinic, a Catholic-based OBGYN practice. The Vitae Clinic uses Natural Procreative Technology to provide tailored care that addresses the root cause of medical issues.

The unique model of the JPII Center and Vitae Clinic allows them to serve women who are under-insured or do not have insurance while also providing services to those with traditional insurance. The revenue from Vitae Clinic patients covers the operating expenses for the clinic as well as medical services for JPII clients. The JPII Center has two full-time OB/GYNs on staff, along with nurses, sonographers, medical assistants, and client advocates to support women facing unplanned pregnancies. Services go beyond pregnancy help to include programs like Work Wheels for car repairs or purchases, rent and utilities assistance, and a focus on providing hope for the future.

The JPII Center’s expansion comes at a time of increased demand for its services, with triple the number of women served compared to 2021. Many women who seek help from the center are “abortion vulnerable” and may have had previous abortions due to their circumstances. By empowering women with resources and support, many choose life for their unborn child. The center hopes to replicate its holistic care model across the country, working with other centers in different states to provide a framework for similar services. Education is a key component of their mission, empowering the next generation with knowledge and compassion for human life.

The JPII Center collaborates with other states to provide women with practical solutions and life-affirming choices. The center’s programs aim to engage communities nationwide and serve as a catalyst for encouraging other states to prioritize holistic care for pregnant women in need. With the demand for services increasing due to external factors like inflation, job insecurity, immigration, and population growth, the center remains dedicated to supporting women through crisis pregnancies and providing them with the resources they need to make informed decisions. Through partnerships, advocacy, and education, the center continues to make a positive impact on the lives of women and families in crisis.
