Matty Healy of The 1975 is focusing on his new relationship with model Gabbriette Bechtel after the release of Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. Healy was uncomfortable with the renewed attention on his past relationship with Swift, especially since he is now with someone new. He and Swift had briefly dated in 2023 after she split from Joe Alwyn. Fans had initially assumed that Alwyn would be the central subject of Swift’s album, but many clues in her lyrics pointed to Healy as her main inspiration.

Despite the potentially scathing tone of some of Swift’s songs, Healy felt relieved about the album and is happy with how it turned out. His family was worried that the songs would be negative towards him, as Healy has struggled with life in the public eye. However, he was appreciative to get a heads-up from Swift’s team about the contents of the LP before its debut. He has been keeping a low profile while fans investigate Swift and Healy’s history, focusing on his new relationship instead.

Healy’s aunt Debbie Dedes, also a songwriter, mentioned that Healy likely wouldn’t be surprised by Swift’s approach in writing about her relationships. She expressed that writing about personal experiences is common for Swift, and Healy would likely understand and be prepared for any songs about him. Healy himself was asked about a potential “diss track” aimed at him in TTPD but stated that he hadn’t listened to much of it, but was sure it was good. Despite the attention on his past with Swift, Healy is content and focused on his current relationship.

Overall, Healy is happy in his new relationship and is not allowing the attention from Swift’s album to affect him. Healy’s family expressed concern about the songs potentially harming him, but he appreciated being informed beforehand. As a songwriter himself, Healy likely understands Swift’s tendency to write about her relationships and is not surprised by the contents of her songs. Healy remains low-key in response to the attention, choosing to focus on his personal life and his music career instead.
