Former Arizona state lawmaker Otoniel “Tony” Navarrete was sentenced to one year in prison with 10 years of supervised release for sexual misconduct with a minor. Following his arrest, Navarrete stepped down from his position and was replaced by another state representative. The allegations against Navarrete were serious, with the boy accusing him of inappropriate touching during the time they lived together. Despite being found guilty of one count of sexual misconduct with a child, Navarrete plans to appeal the verdict.
Navarrete, aged 35, had previously served as a state representative for Arizona’s 30th District in 2016 before being elected to the state Senate in 2018. His political career came to an abrupt end following the allegations of sexual misconduct.
