Four police officers from the Greeley Police Department in Colorado responded to reports of a woman in labor at a home located about an hour away from Boulder in the early morning hours of April 18. Upon arrival, they found the 24-year-old woman actively in labor after her water broke. As they waited for emergency medical personnel to arrive, they realized that the first baby, a boy, had already been delivered but was turning blue due to the cold weather and precipitation. The officers quickly sprang into action, using bread ties to tie off the umbilical cord and gathering towels and blankets from nearby homes to keep the new family warm.

Despite facing challenging conditions, the officers worked together to ensure the safety and well-being of the newborn. One officer tied off the umbilical cord and cut it while another rushed the baby boy back to the patrol vehicle for warmth. However, the baby boy stopped breathing while inside the vehicle, prompting one of the officers to administer infant CPR until medics arrived on the scene. The situation became even more surprising when the new mother informed the officers that she was actually expecting two more babies, prompting them to call for additional medical personnel to assist with the deliveries.

The officers continued to provide support and assistance to the new mother as the second baby, another boy, was successfully delivered with their help. They quickly wrapped up the newborn, tied off the umbilical cord, and cut it before rushing him to the ambulance where medical personnel were already tending to the first baby. The mother was then transported to a local hospital by ambulance where she underwent surgery to deliver the final triplet, while her two other newborns received medical care in the neonatal intensive care unit at the same hospital.

The actions of the Greeley Police Department officers during this unexpected and high-pressure situation were praised by Police Chief Adam Turk, who commended their teamwork, ingenuity, and care in the face of a challenging and unexpected circumstance. The officers’ quick thinking and decisive actions helped ensure the safety and well-being of the mother and her newborn triplets. Despite the challenging weather conditions and the unexpected nature of the situation, the officers remained calm and focused, providing critical assistance until medical personnel could take over.

The 24-year-old woman had gone into labor while home alone, and her phone had died, prompting her to attempt to seek help from a neighbor. The quick response and actions of the officers were crucial in ensuring that all three babies were safely delivered and received the necessary medical attention. The triplets, who were reported to have strong heartbeats, were receiving care in the neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital, although their current condition was not immediately clear. The mother’s identity was not disclosed to protect her privacy, but her gratitude towards the officers for their assistance during the unexpected birth of her triplets was evident.
