Bellevue, Wash.-based game publisher tinyBuild has sold the rights to Totally Reliable Delivery Service to the French corporation Atari. The game was developed by We’re Five Games and is a chaotic party game for up to four players. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, and tinyBuild will continue to own We’re Five Games, which they acquired in February 2021.

Atari plans to publish TRDS under its new Infogrames imprint, reviving a legacy brand that was famous in the early days of PC gaming. Infogrames was known for publishing cult-classic games such as Alone in the Dark, Outcast, and Master of Orion III. Atari CEO Wade Rosen expressed excitement about bringing back the Infogrames brand and building its portfolio through acquisitions, potentially including games from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

The current Atari is actually the descendant of the original Infogrames, which underwent acquisitions, reorganizations, and mergers over the years. The company officially rebranded itself to Atari, Inc. in May 2003. In recent years, Atari has focused on the crowdfunded Atari VCS video game console, as well as releasing sequels to classic arcade games such as Lunar Lander: Beyond. Atari also acquired Nightdive Studios in May.

The new Infogrames label will focus on publishing games that do not fall within the core portfolio of the Atari brand. This includes a focus on game preservation measures. The acquisition of TRDS from tinyBuild is part of Atari’s strategy to expand its game portfolio and revive older brands. The deal marks a significant step for both companies as they work together to bring back the Infogrames brand in the modern gaming industry.

Atari’s acquisition of TRDS represents a continuation of their efforts to reestablish themselves as a prominent player in the gaming industry. By reviving the Infogrames label and focusing on game preservation, Atari is positioning themselves as a company that values both classic and new gaming experiences. The deal also showcases the potential for partnerships and acquisitions within the gaming industry as companies look to expand their reach and offerings.

Overall, the sale of TRDS from tinyBuild to Atari marks a new chapter for both companies. Atari’s plans to use TRDS as the first game under the Infogrames label demonstrate their commitment to reviving classic brands and expanding their game portfolio. With the continued success of the Atari VCS and their focus on game preservation, Atari is solidifying their position as a key player in the gaming industry. The deal also highlights the ongoing evolution and consolidation within the gaming industry as companies seek to grow and adapt to changing market trends.
