For Caitlin Clark, her start in the WNBA will serve as a tryout for a spot on the US Women’s Olympic basketball team. Douglas expressed her desire to represent the USA once more and be part of a team again. The U.S. Classic will take place in three weeks, followed by the U.S. Championships two weeks later. Olympic Trials are set for June, leading up to the Olympics less than a month after. Despite facing setbacks due to a positive COVID-19 test, Douglas remained determined to make her official return to gymnastics at the Winter Cup this year.

Having last competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Douglas was eager to represent her country again and potentially qualify for the all-around competition at nationals. She trained rigorously to prepare for her comeback and was initially scheduled to compete at the Winter Cup but had to withdraw due to COVID-19. Douglas’s performance at the American Classic marked a significant moment in her gymnastics career, signaling her return to competitive gymnastics after an eight-year hiatus. She remains focused on her goal of once again representing the United States and being part of a team.

With the U.S. Classic, U.S. Championships, Olympic Trials, and ultimately the Olympics on the horizon, Douglas is poised to compete at the highest level once again.
