The 2024 Decoding Global Talent Report by Boston Consulting Group, The Network, and The Stepstone Group revealed that London is the most attractive destination city for work. The report found that one in four professionals globally are actively seeking jobs abroad, with up to 800 million professionals possibly looking for opportunities overseas. Economic opportunities, career advancement, and a better quality of life were noted as common reasons for relocating. Employing foreign workers is seen as beneficial for companies, as a diverse workforce can lead to greater innovation and success.

London has maintained its top position as a destination city since 2014, with 9% of survey respondents indicating willingness to move there. Factors driving the city’s dominance include English as the primary language, a strong global network, abundant financial opportunities, a welcoming and multicultural environment, and access to both Europe and the U.S. Singapore, the top destination in Asia, attracted talent with its quality job opportunities, quality of life, income, tax, cost of living, safety, stability, and security. Nine cities in the Asia-Pacific region made it into the top 30 destinations for global talent.

The report pointed out that the departure of talent from origin countries can actually lead to a “brain gain,” as it promotes the dissemination of knowledge and technologies back to these countries and helps them connect more firmly to the global brain. Employers and nations that tap into the positive energy of mobile workers could gain a significant competitive advantage. It is beneficial for companies to attract and retain global talent, as organizations with greater global diversity tend to be more innovative, successful, and profitable.
