Aaron Carter’s life and tragic death are the focus of a new Investigation Discovery docuseries, “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter.” The four-part series delves into the late singer’s struggle with addiction and mental illness. Carter, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 34, left behind a 2-year-old son, Prince Carter. Known for hits like “I Want Candy” and “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” Carter began his career at age 10 and found fame with his debut album. He was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter and also had a career in acting.

Carter’s cause of death was ruled as accidental drowning in his bathtub after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax. Difluoroethane is a gas commonly used in spray cleaners that can induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled. He was the second of three Carter siblings to die from drug-related causes. His older sister, Leslie Carter, died in 2012 of an overdose, and his other sister, Bobbie Jean Carter, passed away in 2023 due to an accidental overdose. Following Aaron’s death, Nick Carter paid tribute to his late brother on Instagram, expressing his love and sadness over their “complicated” relationship and Aaron’s struggles with addiction and mental illness.

Aaron Carter’s on-and-off fiancée, Melanie Martin, also honored him in an Instagram post, sharing images with their son, Prince. Martin wrote a heartfelt message to Carter, expressing her everlasting love for him. Carter’s celebrity friends, such as Lance Bass and Hilary Duff, also paid tribute to him in emotional posts. Bass remembered Carter as the “little brother to all of us” and spoke about his quirky and lovable personality. Duff apologized for the hardships Carter faced and reminisced about the charm he exuded during their time working together on “Lizzie McGuire.”

The documentary series sheds light on Aaron Carter’s life, career, and struggles, giving viewers a deeper understanding of the challenges he faced. His untimely death serves as a reminder of the dangers of addiction and mental health issues. The impact of Carter’s passing on his loved ones, including his family, friends, and fans, is evident in the touching tributes shared in the wake of his death. Despite his struggles, Carter’s talent and charm left a lasting impression on those who knew him, and his legacy continues to be remembered by many in the entertainment industry and beyond.
