The top Republican on the House Small Business Committee, Chairman Roger Williams, accused the Biden administration of using the Small Business Administration (SBA) as its “campaign arm” in Michigan ahead of the 2024 election. Williams expressed concern about the SBA’s collaboration with the Michigan Department of State on a program to promote civic engagement and voter registration. This collaboration includes online voter registration initiatives and in-person voter registration at SBA events, raising questions of whether taxpayer funds are being used to help the Biden campaign expand its voter base in a critical swing state.

President Biden’s re-election campaign is eyeing Michigan as a must-win state in the 2024 race, as he narrowly beat former President Trump there in 2020. Williams’ committee is investigating the SBA’s involvement in voter registration efforts and has found that the majority of outreach events took place in counties with high Democratic National Committee target demographics. Additionally, counties with the largest voter registration increase over the past year have high populations of young and Black voters, key voting blocs for the Democratic party. Williams sent a letter to SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman requesting more information on the agency’s role in expanding the Biden campaign’s voter base.

Amid these allegations, concerns have also been raised about the use of federal agencies in election efforts and diverting resources away from assisting small businesses on Main Street. Williams emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in government agencies and called for further investigation into the extent of the SBA’s involvement in voter registration efforts in Michigan. The SBA’s collaboration with the Michigan Department of State is part of a broader effort by the Biden administration to expand access to voter registration, following a 2021 executive order.

In response to the House Small Business Committee’s investigation and inquiries, SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman has been called upon to provide more information on the agency’s involvement in voter registration efforts in Michigan. The lack of response from Guzman has raised concerns about potential improper involvement of the federal government in America’s electoral processes. The Biden campaign and the SBA have been reached out to for comment on these accusations and allegations of using taxpayer funds to help expand the president’s voter base in a critical battleground state ahead of the 2024 election.

As the 2024 election approaches, the battle for key swing states like Michigan intensifies, with President Biden and the Democratic party aiming to secure victory in these critical states. The involvement of federal agencies like the SBA in voter registration efforts raises questions about the use of taxpayer funds for campaign purposes and the potential impact on the electoral process. The House Small Business Committee’s investigation and calls for transparency underscore the importance of accountability in government agencies and ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately to assist small businesses on Main Street rather than being used for political activities. The outcome of this investigation and the responses from the Biden campaign and the SBA will shed light on the extent of government involvement in election efforts in critical swing states like Michigan.
