Former University of New Mexico football player Rayshawn Boyce has been convicted of robbing a U.S. postal carrier and is facing up to 10 years in prison. Along with the robbery, Boyce was found guilty of stealing a key belonging to the U.S. Postal Service and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Boyce and a co-defendant pulled a mail carrier out of his truck in the International District in January 2022, demanding his keys at gunpoint. However, a neighbor witnessed the altercation and intervened, causing Boyce to flee the scene. Authorities later executed a search warrant at Boyce’s apartment, seizing two semi-automatic guns and a revolver which led to his arrest. Boyce pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A sentencing date for Boyce has not been scheduled yet. Boyce’s lawyer did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the case. Boyce transferred to New Mexico from a California junior college and played in eight games for the Lobos in 2017 as a linebacker. However, his time with the team was cut short after being accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2018, resulting in his suspension. Boyce pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to five years of probation.

The incident involving Boyce and the robbery of the postal carrier highlights a troubled past for the former football player. This recent conviction comes after previous legal trouble, including the assault charge that resulted in his suspension from the University of New Mexico football team. Boyce’s actions have had lasting consequences on his career and freedom, potentially resulting in a lengthy prison sentence. The seriousness of the charges and the involvement of firearms in the incident further compounds the severity of Boyce’s legal situation.

The involvement of firearms in the robbery of the postal carrier raises concerns about the potential for violence and harm in the incident. The use of a gun during the theft not only endangered the postal carrier but also escalated the situation, making it a more dangerous and serious crime. The fact that Boyce was also found to be in possession of multiple firearms during a search of his apartment adds another layer of complexity to the case and could result in additional charges or penalties being imposed on him.

Boyce’s arrest and subsequent conviction serve as a reminder of the importance of following the law and the consequences of criminal behavior. Despite his previous legal troubles and run-ins with the law, Boyce continued to engage in criminal activities, resulting in further legal repercussions. The case highlights the need for individuals to take responsibility for their actions and the potential consequences that can arise from engaging in unlawful behavior, especially when it involves violence and the use of weapons.

As Boyce awaits his sentencing and faces the possibility of a lengthy prison term, the outcome of his case will impact not only his future but also serve as a cautionary tale for others. The involvement of a former college athlete in a serious crime underscores the need for individuals to make better choices and seek help when facing challenges or difficulties. Boyce’s case serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of criminal behavior and the importance of accountability and responsibility in maintaining a law-abiding society.
