The four suspects charged with killing Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley in Oklahoma belonged to an anti-government group called “God’s Misfits.” The group, which had a religious affiliation, held regular weekly meetings at the home of two of the suspects. Butler, 27, and Kelley, 39, were last seen on March 30 before their car was found abandoned near the Oklahoma-Kansas border. “Foul play” was suspected, leading to the arrests of Cole and Cora Twombly, Tad Cullum, and Tifany Adams, who are each facing two counts of first-degree murder.

The affidavit released after the arrests of the suspects revealed that Butler was in a custody battle with Adams for the custody of her two children, who were fathered by Adams’ son. Evidence of severe injury was found at the scene, with blood on the roadway, Butler’s glasses, and a pistol magazine found in Kelley’s purse. The document detailed the ongoing custody battle and the events leading up to Butler and Kelley’s disappearance on March 30. The grandmother of the children’s father reported that Adams had made threats regarding the custody battle, indicating a potential motive for the murders.

The affidavit also stated that Adams purchased stun guns and burner phones used in the plot to kill the women. An interview with the 16-year-old daughter of the Twombleys revealed that the suspects blocked the road to stop Butler and Kelley and diverted them to where Adams and Cullum were. The daughter asked about Kelley’s involvement and was told she wasn’t innocent either. Two of the burner phones were found at a pasture rented by Cullum, where a hole had been dug and covered with hay.

The bodies of Butler and Kelley were eventually found in rural Texas County pending investigation by a medical examiner. The OSBI confirmed that there is “no” chance the women are still alive. The investigation into their deaths uncovered details of the plot orchestrated by the suspects. The custody battle between Butler and Adams, along with threats made by Adams, appears to have been a significant factor in the murders. The involvement of the anti-government group added a disturbing element to the case.

The arrests of the suspects shed light on the tragic fate of Butler and Kelley, who were lured into a deadly trap orchestrated by members of the “God’s Misfits” group. The details of the custody battle, threats made by Adams, and the events leading up to the disappearance of the two women painted a chilling picture of the motives behind the murders. The discovery of their bodies and the evidence uncovered during the investigation provided a clearer understanding of the tragic circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The investigation into the murders of Butler and Kelley continues as authorities work to gather more evidence and ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families. The arrests of the suspects and the details revealed in the affidavit shed light on the disturbing events that led to the deaths of the two women. The involvement of an anti-government group and the plot orchestrated by its members added a layer of complexity to the case. As the investigation progresses, more details may emerge, providing further insight into the motives and actions of those responsible for this heinous crime.
