Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and top-order batsman David Warner have suffered injuries while playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League, just two months before the Twenty20 World Cup. Marsh, who represents the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, sustained a hamstring injury and has returned to Australia for rehabilitation. Despite his injury, Marsh is expected to recover in time for Australia’s opening T20 World Cup match against Oman on June 5. However, it is uncertain whether he will be able to rejoin the Delhi Capitals for the latter stages of the IPL season.

As a key player for Australia, Marsh is likely to lead the team at the T20 World Cup, having previously captained the side in the last two editions. Australia’s coach Andrew McDonald had previously hinted that Marsh was a strong candidate for the captaincy role, given his impressive performances against the West Indies and New Zealand. With the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place from June 1-29, a victory for Australia would see them hold the T20, ODI, and Test world championships simultaneously, becoming the first nation to achieve this feat.

In addition to Marsh, Warner, who is Marsh’s teammate in both the Delhi Capitals and the Australian national team, is also dealing with an injury. Warner injured his finger while batting against the Lucknow Super Giants in a match, and his fitness is being assessed ahead of the Delhi Capitals’ upcoming game against the Gujarat Titans. As Warner is set to play his final matches for Australia at the T20 World Cup, his presence as an opening batsman alongside Travis Head will be crucial for Australia’s campaign in the tournament. Both Marsh and Warner’s injuries have raised concerns about their availability for the IPL and the T20 World Cup, with the Australian team hoping for a speedy recovery for both players.
