Thai snooker player Sunny Akani will be competing in Q School in Bangkok next week in an attempt to return to the World Snooker Tour circuit after a two-year absence. Akani made a name for himself in 2017 when he pushed Ronnie O’Sullivan to a close 6-5 match at the UK Championship, with O’Sullivan narrowly coming out on top. Despite the loss, O’Sullivan praised Akani for his impressive long potting skills, stating that he felt Akani deserved the win in their match.

At 28 years old, Akani has had a successful career on the main tour, reaching a world ranking as high as 44 in 2021. He has also made it to the quarter-finals of prestigious tournaments such as the Shoot Out and Indian Open. However, he lost his tour card in 2022 and was unable to regain his spot on the circuit at Q School two years ago. Now, Akani will have the opportunity to bounce back and secure a place on the World Snooker Tour by competing in the Asia and Oceania Q School tournament in Bangkok.

The Asia and Oceania Q School will take place at the Rajamangala National Stadium from May 22 to June 2. The tournament will consist of two events, with four places on the World Snooker Tour circuit up for grabs for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. Akani will be looking to make a strong showing at Q School in order to secure a new spot on the circuit and continue his professional snooker career.

Fans of snooker can watch the action unfold at the Q School, as well as other top snooker events such as the World Snooker Championship, live on discovery+, the Eurosport app, and eurosport.com. With the stakes high and the competition fierce, Akani will need to bring his A-game to secure his place on the World Snooker Tour once again. As he looks to make a comeback after his two-year absence, Akani will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and prove himself among the best in the world of snooker.
